Makeba is an experienced communications professional who joined AMS in 2022 to lead the communications and marketing efforts for the GridWise Alliance (GWA) and the Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA). She intends to use her expertise to amplify the mission and value of these associations to their respective members, stakeholders, and industry partners.
Makeba has over 15 years of experience working in communications and over ten years of experience with not-for-profit organizations and associations. Prior to joining AMS, Makeba served as the managing editor for an industry-leading scientific journal, an associate specializing in committee work and appointments at a not-for-profit organization, and a features reporter for a daily newspaper in New Jersey.
Makeba lives in Herndon, VA with her twin 14-year-old daughters. She grew up in New York City and attended to the famous “Fame” High School of Performing Arts where she played the flute. (Before you ask her, no they did not dance in the fountains). She loves the arts, reading, traveling, and spending quality time with friends and family.
